Hello friends and neighbors,
Yesterday at about 1:20 in the afternoon on Gibralter Ave a man in a newer model black four door sedan (possibly a Pontiac) approached my 12 year old daughter and asked her if she wanted a ride to where ever she was going. She said no and continued to walk up to California Elem School. The man followed her and parked just past the school. She went in to school, picked up her 5 year old brother and continued to walk home. The man followed them, passing them at least 6 more times. At first my daughter though maybe he was lost, but as it really sank in that the man was not lost, she was scared. She cut through Smallwood park and the man knew how to get from Corsica into the Spice street tract. He continued to follow them. They hid and then when he was out of sight ran home. We made a police report and contacted the school. Officer Chingarev, TeWinkle’s resource officer, and well as another police officer came to our home and took the report. The police can only do so much – we must be vigilent in educating our kids as to how to handle these situations as well as looking out for "BAD" people! If your child carries a cell phone, in Costa Mesa, please give them the number for Costa Mesa PD dispatch, 714-754-5255. This will be faster to call than 911 in Costa Mesa – and if your child is calling from a cell phone and dials 911, they will be routed to CHP rather than to CMPD. The description, again, of the car and the man: newer model black, four door, sedan, possibly Pontiac. Overweight white man, bald on top with bushy sandy/dirty blond hair on the sides (toilet bowl look), scruffy beard. He was wearing large black sunglasses and a white tee shirt yesterday. Please forward this e-mail on to all of your friends and neighbors. The more people who are aware of theses kinds of things and these kind of people in our neighborhoods, the better able we are to protect our kids. Thanks-Shiloh
