It’s amazing how something so far away has touched us all. From the charitable giving to going to Haiti to help them in their time of need. Below is a email from my neice Melissa Artle and it talks about how her husband Rob (An LA Fireman) and his squad is their to help.
From Melissa Artle-
Here is a late-night update for ya. I got this email update midday. Then Rob called me while I was at work today, such a nice surprise! He was using a land-line at the US Embassy, so we had a decent connection & got to talk for about 15mins. He was in great spirits. They spent the day delivering the generator kits to various orphanages & tents to hospitals. He said it was sad to think of the orphans as not having parents, & sad to see some that had recent amputations, but he said the kids weren’t sad. They were happy & playful. They only speak French, but the guys tried to interact with the kids as best they could. He told me he is covered in mosquito bites even though he sprays himself from head to toe & sleeps under a skeeter-net! They have plenty of the ready-to-eat meals & aren’t going hungry 🙂 They are showering in out-house style, portable showers. He mentioned he did some laundry today, but I don’t know what that means! He said they’re sleeping fairly well at night, so that is nice to hear. I guess it’s my Mommy-instinct taking over when I worry that he’s hungry or sleeping on a hard, dirty ground!
Tomorrow they will be setting up tents to create a hospital for the victims that have been on the Naval Ship “Comfort”…I think. Rob wasn’t entirely sure. All of the FEMA supplies the 1st team took over there with them on the Military plane are being donated to Haiti, so Rob’s team is focusing on getting these supplies to their new locations.
