Costa Mesa United awards grant to Costa Mesa High School Cheer Squad
Costa Mesa, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2009) Costa Mesa United, a non-profit organization devoted to supporting youth sports facilities in the community, awarded $864.00 to the Costa Mesa High School (CMHS) Cheer squad to purchase backhand spring machines to help the cheer squad with tumbling skills. This money will be combined with $1,000 donated from 2008 CMHS graduate Ally Krikorian, so the squad can purchase two trainers. Krikorian received a scholarship from the Golden State Spirit Association (GSSA) and donated it to the program to purchase back handspring machines to strengthen the tumbling skills for the program. She received a full scholarship for Gymnastics to the University of Maryland and could not keep the $1,000 from GSSA. “This grant will not only help the 36 CMHS Cheer squad, but future squads as well. We will also use the tumbling machine for clinics with Pop Warner and others to train our future high school cheerleaders early,” said CMHS Cheer Coach Kori Johnson.
About Costa Mesa United
Costa Mesa United was originally established to help build the stadium and pool complex for Costa Mesa and Estancia high schools. Serving the youth sports of Costa Mesa, it is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. It is planning to enhance the stadium and pool construction, as well as support other youth sports facilities utilized by Little League, Softball, AYSO Soccer, Pop Warner Football, and other youth sports programs including the Costa Mesa zone schools. It has formed the "Youth Sports Council" to coordinate input and hear what items are necessary for the future of Costa Mesa. For the first time, the city, the school district, the coaches, and the youth sports representatives are working together to improve facilities and create new opportunities to solve youth sport needs.
