Construction of new Costa Mesa High pool ongoing
It’s exciting to see the work being done finally… Costa Mesa United worked behind the scenes of Measure F making phone calls and soliciting votes to get the Measure passed. Can’t wait until it is done!

COSTA MESA Crews are continuing to push dirt at Costa Mesa High School to make way for a much-needed, new Olympic-size pool.
Ongoing construction will leave Costa Mesa High swimmers and water polo players displaced this school year, but by next year the athletes will call the new aquatics center and pool home.
The $4.6 million pool project, originally estimated to cost $7.5 million, is being built with funds from Measure F, the $282 million construction bond approved by Newport-Mesa Unified voters in 2005.
Parents and advocates rallied for years for a new pool to replace a decades-old L-shaped pool that wasn’t even able to host CIF swim meets.
"I just think it helps the community in general, not just the athletes," said Principal Edward Wong.
More than 100 swimmers will use the pools at Orange Coast College and Estancia High School this school year as construction at their home base continues, Wong said.
Construction began June 20 and is slated to be finished by September 2010, in time for the next school year, said Tim Marsh, Newport-Mesa Unified School District’s administrative director of Facilities Support Services.
Along with the pool, support buildings will include a team room, lockers, showers and more, Marsh said.
Measure F also paid for the $9.5 million Jim Scott Stadium at Estancia High School that opened in April 2008; the rebuilding of Robin Hall and Loats Theater, the historic Newport Harbor High School bell tower; and a new gym at TeWinkle Middle School that opened last September.
