From Principal Kirk Bauermeister-

Just wanted to catch you up on some of things going on at Estancia High School.

Congratulations to Bob Sterling and the AVID program.

Yesterday Girls Inc. came and awarded $70,000 worth of college scholarships to seven girls in our AVID program. These girls had to write essays and were in competition with girls all over the southland and nation.

The winners were:

Nick Reed Scholarship winners; 4 of the 5 winners were from EHS.

Jennifer Torres $2500

Cassie Dillon $2500

Vanessa Torres $2500

Alyssa McKay $2500

Girls Inc. National Scholarship winners;

Jennifer Lopez $20,000

Melanie Hercules $20,000

Briseida Miranda $20,000

Xiomara was chosen for the first round of “Artist of the Year” for the OC Register’s Varsity Arts. There was a pretty in depth application and there were 113 nominees submitted by 51 schools from all over the county. From the nominees who were chosen, they will choose the top 10 from each discipline, and then from those they will conduct interviews and choose 1 student from each discipline as “Artist of the Year”. Based on the list of schools, just getting this far is an accomplishment.

This was all in yesterday’s Varsity Arts section of the paper. The next list will be published on March 31st.

Our Boys’ Soccer team defeat Granite Hill yesterday in the CIF playoffs and move on to the quarterfinals against Windward on Thursday at 3:00 in Santa Monica. It was a great Winter Season of sport with boys basketball and girls basketball both advancing in CIF with victories.

Below is the information about the Estancia/TeWinkle Schools Foundation Gala, which will be held Saturday March 22. This is a fundraiser to help both schools. Estancia Alum Mike Schaefer (Class of 1971) will be the honoree for the evening. Please come out and join us for this fun and worthwhile evening to support our schools. Contact Vicki Snell if you have question or would like to attend.
